The Bangkok Post's video interview with rising star James Jirayu Tangsrisuk has attracted a lot of interest. Since it is in Thai with rather minimal English language subtitles, we ( Archarn Sunee Khaenyuk and I) thought it would be good to add a complete transcript. Now you can follow what was said in either Thai or English.
Hello, I’m James Jirayu TangTangsrisuk.
At this time, my latest work involves the TV series Supap Buruth Jutathep in the episode which I play the part of Khun Chai Puttipat – Doctor Khun Chai.
James, what does it feel like to have become famous in such a short space of time?
I'm still a bit dazed, confused over whether I really am a superstar or not. Is this real or not? Because I had been working quite a lot – a lot of work over a short period of time. Quite long hours. I had the opportunity to act in a soap. I got to work and I feel like I’m just an ordinary actor.
How have you handled sudden fame?
I still feel the same. I'm the same person. I’m just a normal person, but I’m just starting to build up a body of work and people are starting to commend (my work) which is a good thing. When we perform and people are pleased with my work or there are people who praise the roles that I play its like I get encouragement and gives me the energy to carry on with my work.
Is being famous difficult, James?
No (with a laugh). I really do just live an ordinary life, like any normal person.
Have you had to make any changes in your life?
Not to the extent that I have to do a lot of preparation. I can still go out and about normally.
Do you get followed by photographers?
Oh, People might not recognise me because my character Khun Chai in the soap opera wears glasses. Some people might identify Khun Chai with wearing glasses (allowing me to go unnoticed)
What’s the key to having a long career in the entertainment industry?
I think it’s mostly a matter of being responsible. Because I don’t consider myself to be a star. I’m just an actor who works with other actors. I work with experienced actors like Mae Tuk [Duangta Tungkamanee] and Mae Maew [Jaruwan Panyopas]. I’m just an actor trying to do my best in my work.
The star are known to everyone. They have very famous and they are public. I believe that if you meet the star. You will be excited and crazy about. They have ability to act or ability to sing etc.
