Approach, Method and Technique
Edward Anthony (1963) = American applied Linguist identified three conceptualization and organization:
- An approach is a set of correlative assumptions dealing with the nature of language teaching and learning.
- A method is an overall plan for the systematic presentation of language base upon a selected approach.
- A technique are the specific activities manifested in the classroom that are consistent with a method and in harmony with an approach.
Richards and Rogers (1982) approach a reformulation of the concept of “ method” : approach, design and procedure.
- A method is umbrella term for the specification and interrelation of theory and practice.
- An approach defines assumptions, belief, and theories about the nature of language and language learning.
- Designs specify the relationship of those theories to classroom materials and activities.
- Procedures are the techniques and practices that are derived from one’ s approach and design.
